Meet Anthea Tsiaki Gbenartey, a landscape designer and gardener, who is also a plant lover, an organic skincare enthusiast, a fitness freak, a landscape photographer, and an advocate for a greener world and use of everything organic.
She’s one of the very few women who’s ventured into landscaping and gardening, a male domineering field and is doing amazingly well regardless, but that’s not all to be said about her. She as well deploys her passion and skills, at very given chance, to advocate for a greener world, impact lives, and help make the world a better place, a step at a time, and that’s what I admire about her. Anthea Tsiaki Gbenartey is a strong, impact-driven and an inspiring young woman.
Her business, Lutea Scapes’ focus isn’t just about offering services for profit, but ensuring they contribute to sustainable development goals 13 and 15. They are keen about prosterity and a better world, and their prices are affordable enough to ensure that people don’t run away from landscape services; since it is usually seen as a luxury service for the rich only.
Their services include: Co-operative and professional landscape management; residential and commercial landscaping; outdoor lighting design; lawn planting, mowing and maintenance; installation and maintenance of hardscaping; fumigation and pest control services; and tree and shrub planting.

Anthea was inspired to venture into landscaping and gardening by her surrounding; her family’s love for plants. “I grew up up with a family that love plants. My dad loved plants and nature, so, I learnt a lot from him. My mum, on the other hand, was also a member of Ghana Agricultural Workers Union, and so, gardening and farming became a hobby,” she narrated and also unveiled that, her name “Anthea” is the Greek goddess of flowers and so, people assumed the name has an effect on her and her love for plants.
In pursuit of her passion, she found herself leaving one University to another to pursue a design related programme instead of the engineering programme she was doing at the said time. And to her delight, she was offered landscape design.
If there’s anything at all that influences her love for what she does, it is the fact that gardening is therapeutic. “Each day with plants and the interaction with nature, for me, is a stress reliever. Just being around plants takes away a lot of stress and worries, and that, to me, is the most beautiful thing about what I do,” she has revealed.

As inevitable as challenges are in almost every area of life, Anthea has had her own share of challenges in her business. As a female in a male domineering field, she had dealt with a lof of discrimination; including having clients who think being feminine makes her too soft for a work that involves of hard labour, but she’s always ended up proving them wrong.
Also, as a startup, having industrial equipment for huge projects, has been another challenge. She even explained that, landscape is capital intensive and extremely broad, and in trying to carve a niche, the likelihood of prospective clients always demanding services that are not in your niche but still landscape related.
Irrespective of these challenges, Anthea is always ready to deploy strategies for effectively delivering beyond expectations. She looks forward and is working towards, becoming a leader in a field and helping create a more greener world.
Since September, 2014, she’s always used every given opportunity to adovate for a greener world and the use of everything organic; and she mostly do that during seminars, talk shows or any event at which she was invited to speak. Her advocacy journey will be six years in September and she intends channeling more efforts into that.
Anthea is empowering you to take action for nature and advocate for a greener world, too. When asked if she has a message for my readers, she has this to say:
“When we take action for nature, we act to protect ourselves and our livehoods. Landslides are caused by loose soil and ways to prevent them include increasing the binding capacity of soil and soil erosion caused by surface run off. Vegetation does both by absorbing the water and anchoring the soil in place.
This is more than enough reason to want to have a greener world and for everyone to consciously take action for nature. A decision to have a greener world is a decision to save your life and that of others.”
